Practical boost for the brewing elite: when research meets industry standards

Germany enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide for its brewing education. However, at renowned locations such as the Technical University of Berlin or the Technical University of Munich (Weihenstephan), studies have long since moved beyond the lecture hall. Realistic production environments are crucial to ensure that prospective master brewers and beverage technologists not only understand the theory of fermentation, but also master the logistics behind it.

The challenge: industrial conditions on a small scale

Research breweries at universities face a particular challenge. They must replicate the entire process of a large-scale brewery – from the brewhouse to packaging – yet often operate with smaller batches and changing personnel (the students).

This means for container logistics:

  • Maximum occupational safety: Students are not yet experienced skilled workers; handling must therefore be safe and forgiving of errors.
